The Envelope Please...—1:24 AM

I never thought I'd do this, but I wanted to express a big "Thank you" to everyone who helped out with voting on the dialogue clips last week, so here is the video reference footage that MaryBeth and I filmed over the weekend based on the three finalist clips.

This footage was submitted as part of my planning for my next animated assignment, and in concert with my mentor I'll select one of the three lines and animate it according to a plan based on the video. (The video is just a guideline; the animation evolves from this plan over time.) The whole video reference process is pretty embarrassing, but I admit it has proved to be an invaluable step in the planning of a new shot. I wouldn't ordinarily take it public, but all the voting from last week would've felt pretty anticlimactic otherwise.

The hard work seems to have paid off: this little packet earned an A- from my tough-as-nails mentor, from whom I've only managed to eke out one B so far this term. Thanks again to everyone who voted, and an extra-special double-thanks to my past and future writing partner Brandon, who made time for an emergency brainstorming session on Friday night to come up with actions and backstories for six or seven of the front-running dialogue clips, which helped me narrow the pack and figure out which ones to film.

(So that's me acting. I'm deeply sorry you had to see that.)

More Dialogue Voting! Yay!

In case you're just joining us, I've got to choose a clip of spoken character dialogue for this week's assignment at Animation Mentor, then it will be my responsibility to animate a character speaking that line. I'm trying to pick the best line and you can help out.

We've got eight nine clips today – a few of which survived from earlier in the week, and a few new ones. If you like one best, please vote for it in the poll. Thanks a million!

One of these will be animated by yours truly in five weeks' time (and that clip will eventually show up on this very site)!

You Ain't Heard Nothin' Yet!

My animated assignments are finally about to enter the talkie era! This week I have to choose a clip of dialogue to animate, and I have no idea what to pick. Won't you help, by listening to the following ten clips, and voting for your favorite?

(I realize "dialogue" is kind of a misnomer, since the restrictions of the assignment dictate that only one character be speaking – but it's hardly a "monologue" in the traditional sense either, and everyone at school refers to it as a dialogue assignment, so there you are.)

(I realize also that I'm woefully out of date with the week-by-week updates on my actual assignments – the Tanglepuppy update I posted a month ago was from an assignment I animated back in March, for crying out loud – but, what can I say? School is keeping me too busy to type! For now, we exist in a time-shifted parallel dimension – kind of like the final season of Lost... or what I assume the final season of Lost was like.)

Anyway, as Puffy says, vote or die!
