As The Apple Turns
a snotwarbler's dream come true
I'm in the market for a new computer and because I'm not a mouth-breathing troglodyte with the brain case capacity of Carrot Top and an undying interest in wasting my time with pointless attempts at wrangling a labyrinthine user interface into submission, it'll be a Mac. (Ha ha! We kid you PC users. Keep havin' fun!) Anyway, it's that time of year when you don't buy a new Apple without first checking out the rumors; Steve Jobs is about to deliver another of his occasional keynote addresses at this month's Worldwide Developers Conference. Usually, this is when Apple announces additions and upgrades to its product line, so it makes sense to buy after this and extend your purchase forward a few months in the obsolescence game.
So, although I ordinarily don't spend a lot of time researching news and rumors of Apple's doings, it seemed like a good idea to hit a few of the sites. MacNN, AppleInsider, MacOSRumors, etc. There are a handful, just as there are with any niche group of chattering web geeks. And then, there's the best: As The Apple Turns. For my money, Apple Turns is priceless because it aims to sum up the others, allowing a redundance-free one-stop location to get the latest update. But on top of that, Apple Turns is positively hilarious! Whenever I need a little inspiration to get writing, these days I give Apple Turns a glance. The perfect blend of absurdity and sarcasm always gets me going. And, like other brilliant comedy sites (e.g., The Athletic Reporter), Apple Turns sets up the joke so deftly that you get your news and your humor all in one.
You may not need any Apple information, but you should still give Apple Turns a quick read. Invariably there's something fun to entertain you. Painstakingly designed to resemble the desktop of a Mac back in the "platinum" style days and constructed in "scenes" and "episodes" like a soap opera (hence the name), it's a rollicking good time, no matter who you are!
