The direction and performances are magnificent, but the most astonishing achievement is the level of emotional range and honesty from a pair of first-time screenwriters. Absolutely staggering. Minnie Driver is excellent in everything she does, but this will always be the best. She delivers so much perfection in so few scenes—laughing, bantering, or sobbing, she hits every note with endearing charisma and raw honesty.
