This never had a chance to be as fantastic as Easy A, but it’s clever and unique, and Sweeney and Powell have great love-hate chemistry. The script and comic energy are at times strikingly uneven, but I’m glad I stuck with it. The romantic denouement hinges on a rather ingenious callback (possibly lifted from the original Shakespeare?), and there’s a cast singalong over the closing credits. Those never fail to make me weep with joy.
