The pacing leaves something to be desired, and at times the humor feels more like inside jokes between its co-writer leads. These beautifully broken characters are easy to love, though, and Conti’s ability to play complex emotions under a monkey suit attests to her years of experience pulling off the same miracle on a smaller scale. It’s certainly never predictable, and its final scene rivals The Shawshank Redemption for emotional punch.
