As an Odenkirk payday, I’m 100% on board with this—keep ’em coming! As a follow-up to the originality and punch of its predecessor, it falls woefully short in a manner that’s become all too familiar. Sure, it ratchets up the action in some fun ways, but the appeal of the first one (like The Accountant, with its own lackluster sequel) was all of the ways it didn’t go big. Where the circumstances felt inevitable, and the character moments contrasted the crazy action, and gave it its stakes. This is far less focused, devolving into a mishmash of concussive nonsense. (And, just when you think the script has truly mishandled Connie Nielsen’s character, it takes a bizarre and truly incoherent turn.)
