This creative partnership between Lanthimos and Stone is really something to behold. He seems to be on a mission to challenge audiences in new ways every time, and she gets to inhabit characters unlike anything else out there. This performance is nothing short of spellbinding: fearless, committed, and—no matter how bizarre the circumstances get—she holds all truths with equal weight and reality. Plemons is excellent, too, of course. (And Alicia Silverstone should earn some sort of superlative for appearing in this and a Netflix “Hallmark Holiday” ripoff in the same season.)
