Cage is at his best in these self-contained, unshowy dramas, and pairing him with someone as natural and understated as Julianne Nicholson is a perfect choice. I wish the story had a few turns for him to exercise a little agency, just to interrupt the demoralizing downward slide, but I can appreciate the mood Borgli was going for. (And what a fantastic use of Tim Meadows!)
