Magnificent work from Duvall, Harper, and young Allan Hubbard. Beresford’s camera choices are incredible: extended wide shots featuring the bare, isolating landscape; using the front porch roof to let Harper step into sunlight, her sweet, inquisitive face shining bright against the shaded front door. Its unhurried pace gives the characters room to breathe, and matches Mac’s approach to this new chapter in his life.
