While the zero-budget handheld approach made me dizzy at times, the music is so perfect, and the chemistry between Hansard and Irglová is so precious, that it was well worth it. The film is less of a story and more of a vérité glimpse at raw artistic expression; in that regard, its messy lighting and camerawork definitely add to the effect.
