Cry For Help Dept.—10:12 PM
I want you to know I take no joy in posting things like this that pop into my head, but I'm eternally grateful for your patience and understanding that allows me to do it. I'd hate to enter our third week in July with the monthly writing archive still completely empty.
Anyway, without further ado...
Q: What's the difference between an acorn and a pontiff's prevarication?
A: One is a maple baby; the other is a papal maybe.
With that, I think I'm overdue for a long nap.

Cursory research confirms that acorns are oak babies only. This is why it's a good thing I don't have an iPhone. If I had Wikipedia at my fingertips while driving, this flash of brilliance would've been nipped in the bud. (Also, I'd probably have flattened a pedestrian.)
I'm leaving this as-is, because if you put "maple seed" in the question it sort of destroys the surprise of the second part. If you want factual accuracy, you can go someplace else – this here's Pun Town! Population: [resigned sigh]

Speaking for the insufferably negligent, I commend you on this post!

I still find myself chuckling about this in my head at least once every week or so. Botanically inaccurate it may be, but it's so cute...
