Dancing at the Movies—10:57 AM
Really nicely edited montage of dancing clips from popular movies, set (naturally) to "Footloose" by Kenny Loggins. Very catchy and a nice way to get the creative juices going to start the day.
The creator says there's over 30 films in there, but it reads as closer to 20 because it keeps returning to the same scenes from six to ten movies for the core moments. I wish there were another 15-20 movies sprinkled throughout the middle part, where it really gets going, to heighten the variety. White Knights, Grease, Dirty Dancing, and Flashdance really tend to dominate. (And I don't think there was any reason to go back to True Lies a second time.)
I'm not saying I could do it any better – given these clips, this is very skillfully edited – but, with this amount of skill and effort, it's a shame there isn't more of a progression and a story to the clips chosen. Instead, it seems to swim around in circles in the same pool of clips. Where are Romy & Michele, Chicago, and Bring It On? What about Back to the Future – there are fun little moments of dancing in all three that would be surprising in a montage like this. (More than Jamie Lee Curtis falling down.) I applaud working Get Smart in there, but what about Enchanted? (500) Days of Summer?
It's very good – it left me wanting more, after all!
