Dialogue—10:58 PM

I have to choose three of the following clips to submit on Sunday; after that, the field will be narrowed to one, which I'll be turning into an animated scene over the next two months. I have a few front-runners in mind, but I'd love to hear your thoughts as well.

Unfortunately, you can only vote for one zero at a time in the poll, but feel free to add additional comments below (anonymously is fine!). Thanks!

(Update: Polling is closed, but thanks to all who participated. The winners were 5, 7, and 10 – and although it was agony choosing between 7 and 10 in the end, I will be animating #7 between now and Xmas.)

Sorry there's eleven of them – I realize that's a lot. It's always hard to choose. My goal this time around is to pick something with a little more energy since last time my shot was pretty subdued (I animated the one about the fish, as you probably know if you've been following along). Also it's good to have some contrast between the two characters. Thanks again for your thoughts!

30 Rock Live!—10:20 PM

Well, I'd give any amount of money to get the full DVD set without that episode. Maybe a regular episode with live fake ads would've been a better idea.

I think the reason the live shows worked so well at UCB during the strike is they were regular episode scripts, not specifically written for live production. Or maybe it's just me.

Talk About Dumb, Indeed—8:28 PM

Gruber, incredulous:

Did you know there were people who profess to prefer dumb quotes to proper ones?

I do, online, and here's why:

Smart quotes wreak fucking havoc when you cut-n-paste them from anywhere to anywhere. (Especially if Word is involved.) And they break like crazy if you're using script tricks to speed the process of posting something to your blog (as I expect he is, above) – whenever there's a quote or apostrophe in a New York Times headline, I end up having to delete something like ‘ and replace it with the punctuation I really need.

Yep, better software would be the perfect solution – but living in the world that exists, I'd rather just have dumb quotes for now.

I Can Dig It

At last, I'm compelled to publish another animation update by a combination of having more than 23 seconds of free time and a desire to bump the damn No Ordinary Family logo off the top of the page. (It might start to look like an endorsement!) (Read more.)

The Week That Wasn't

The networks hate us – that's the best way to interpret this week's debuts (and cancellations). (Read more.)
