Fabulous, charming, and pleasingly offbeat in the way Burton used to be before he felt compelled to make a competition out of it. There’s not much plot, but the characterizations are splendid and the world it explores is rich and expressive. Bo Welch and Stan Winston deserve enormous credit for developing a stylized and satisfying look that stops just short of preposterous.
