BSYNW: Miss Guided—9:36 PM

ABC's Miss Guided, starring Judy Greer, is this week's Best Show You're Not Watching. It's not perfect – but Arrested Development was canceled, so what is? It's still really funny and of course Judy Greer is terrific.

So are Kristoffer Polaha as the Spanish teacher she has a crush on (Greer is a guidance counselor at her old high school), and Chris Parnell doing a new twist on the Vice Principal with the stick up his ass. Brooke Burns is great as the new English teacher (and Greer's popular cheerleader nemesis from last time they shared this campus). Burns has always been underrated because of her Baywatch roots, but she's very natural and funny.

You still have time: the last two episodes of the season air this Thursday at 8:00. (Probably the last ever; I haven't heard anything, but ABC's support for the show has been abysmal – plus the show is actually good, which is never a good sign.) Nothing else in that time slot will be as enjoyable. Set your TiVos.

Okay, update: this week the Best Show You're Not Watching award is actually a tie. The New Adventures of Old Christine consistently has me in hysterics. Tonight's episode is no exception. I've been reluctant to admit this on onebee because I criticized it early for its stupid title (which is still stupid, by the way – if the CBS promo announcer calls your show "Old Christine" then you should just shorten the name to that). But I'm coming out of the Old Christine closet: the show is goddamn hilarious. I spend most entire weeks looking forward to it.

The cast is awesome and the writers' room is basically a Raymond reunion; give it a try, people.

This is maybe the only thing you possibly could have pointed out that would make me give "...Old Christine" a try, but, now I'll probably give it a try.

You can't imagine how badly I wanted to dismiss this show before it started, but for some reason I watched it and I don't think a single episode has gone by that I haven't laughed out loud – and you know that's not easy to do alone.

(Not because of being desperately lonely; I'm talking about the infectiousness of laughter... oh, you know what I mean.)

The more I think about this the more offended I am. That's the only thing I could have said?

Not,

Old Christine consistently has me in hysterics.

Nor,

[T]he show is goddamn hilarious.

Not even,

I spend most entire weeks looking forward to it.

We've known each other a dozen years and my sense of humor holds zero currency? A pox on you, sir! Now, I must go, as I am putting the finishing touches on my 17-point list: "Reasons Welcome to the Captain Is Funnier Than Cheers"...

Well, that's probably the only thing anyone could have said.

Plus, it was more of a "well, why didn't you say it had a lot of RAYMOND writers in the first place?"

My point is this: be as offended as you want, but you're the guy who buried the lead ; ) (BROADCAST NEWS reference. Speaking of underappreciated movies of our lifetime...).

As I said: the more I think about it, the more offended I am. Now that you've got me thinking about it some more, I'm even more offended than I was an hour ago! It's my fault you don't browse Lew Schneider's IMDb page regularly?

I noticed you used an emoticon, possibly for the first time ever, so I'm going to go ahead and chalk this up as my biggest victory in the history of onebee mock debates.

If you persist in this manner, I may have little choice to bid you "good day."

Miss Guided has not been picked up for this fall. Apparently, ABC agreed with everything I said except for the word "best." Now it's the Best Show You Couldn't Be Watching Even If You Tried!

It makes sense when you think about it. Why build an audience for a fresh new show when you could broadcast the lackluster final season of a show that peaked two years ago on another network? The sets for Scrubs are already built! This is TV Executive 101, people.

CBS will be giving you another chance at Christine, however. So look sharp!
