Obama Still Alive!—9:58 AM

Let's hope he stays that way. He may not live up to all his hype (Could anyone? Could Jesus?) but it'll be nice to listen to speeches like that for a while.

McCain is a good guy, and his concession speech sounded like him talking again, instead of the desperate partisan robot who's been stumping for him the last month or so. I'm sure he'd rather have won - it might have made all those compromises worth it - but he looked very relieved that it's all finally over.

The Minnesota senate race is about a thousand votes apart right now, and with the likelihood of a run-off in Georgia, that starts to be pretty interesting. Nate Silver's electoral map and six-point spread in the popular vote are looking just about perfect. He will definitely be someone to watch.

Now, is there any chance we could get a nice week off from the media frenzy? No? Well, I tried.

Your logo is very nice (very google) and yes, Jesus lives up to the hype. Al Freakin, on the other hand, does not.

I meant Obama's hype, which I realize was unclear, so I've corrected it. Thanks for dropping by! I knew my good mood had a shelf life.

"kotc" who are you? The world is a better place as of 11:OOPM 11/04/08, regardless of which candidate you voted for.

My dad is a doctor in Minnesota (which Bee Boy probably knows, but others might not) and a major Franken supporter. When Franken lost by 600 votes (pending a recount, of course), I emailed Dad and told him that he could have called 600 people himself. Or, he could probably have eliminated 600 Coleman voters just through a series of unfortunate "accidents" in his hospital. He now blames himself.

Also, I sort of thought McCain was in trouble early on, when Obama had that kick-ass "O" logo and the McCain campaign color scheme eschewed red, white and blue for blue and yellow. You've got to go red, white and blue. I think that's obvious, and has been proven. Blue and yellow? Really? Did we learn nothing from Howard Dean?

"kotc"Thu, 11/6/08 2:37pm

Monique, if you don't know who I am you are probably better off. You will eventually learn the world is the same today* as it was yesterday (nothing new under the sun) regardless of who you voted for. Mulder, I love your take on the Minnesota election. As for the republican candidate, I don't think there was any way he was going to win, color palette, logo or "unfortunate accidents" for that matter.

*A beautiful place I must say.

I'm glad to hear Dr. Mulder is a Frankenhead! I haven't followed Minnesota's Senate race at all, so I can't speak to any of his reasons for supporting Franken's candidacy (or his son's reasons for doubting it), but having read Al's books I think he has a nice wonky head on his shoulders, and I suppose it would be fun to pick up another seat in the Senate.

I think the state of the world is a little different. A problem we have (and reasonable people can disagree about how big a problem it is) is that a lot of other countries see the US as a gloomy and impenetrable force of destruction. Rightly or otherwise, they view an Obama presidency as a likely step in a new direction. Will his administration be as transparent and angelic as his most devoted faithful expect it to be? Of course not. But I think "the world" is still kind of jazzed about it. (You can look on TV and see them dancing in the streets.)

One thing I said in 2004 (and we thought the Republican candidate was doomed then, too, color palette notwithstanding – Kerry proved us all wrong by being so terrible) was that "As annoyed as I am that the smug smirk will remain firmly planted on our president's puss for another four years, I'm fully aware that the actual effect felt by me – the regular citizen – will be minimal." This was cheerfully seconded by KOTC at the time:

I think beeboy's comments - "I'm fully aware that the actual effect felt by me – the regular citizen – will be minimal." - may be the most accurate.

Turns out we were both dead wrong. I remain fully aware that the ossification of government and the realities of the world guarantee Obama will not be able to carry out many of his grandest plans, but I no longer think it's just a wash: the guy in charge can have an effect on the regular citizen.

It should also be noted that Monique is my mom, and if you disrespect her I will find you and I will end you.

"kotc"Thu, 11/6/08 4:46pm

No disrespect from me. Moms are the best (categorically speaking), I think she deserves a "bee" icon like you. Maybe even a queen bee (a little crown would be nice). The question I have is who is that imposter "momarino".

I still hold with my original opinion, and your thought back in 2004, with regard to the effect on the regular citizen.

As to who I am. I think it was already established that I am Keanu Reeves.

dont say obama ans jesus in the same sentence. obama is a racist fool

160 million fools voted for a color instead of a president and they know he is a yellow belly coward

Bee BoyWed, 11/18/09 7:41pm

Excellent, thoughtful, cogent points. I know when I voted for Obama, I was voting for nothing other than the color yellow.

I wasn't aware, however, that we had such record voter turnout last year. If 159,999,999 other fools voted yellow with me, and Obama won with 53% of the popular vote, that means 301 million people voted – approximately 178% of registered voters. In fact, with only an estimated 308 million Americans alive – and leaving aside children, prisoners, and children in prison – it sounds like a lot more people voted than were even eligible. Sweet Obama Jesus, that Acorn is more corrupt than I realized!
